Top 10 Things to Do in Los Angeles That You Can't Miss

Los Angeles has become known as the City of Angels, and with good reason. With countless things to do and explore, it’s no wonder millions of tourists visit Los Angeles each year in hopes of catching a glimpse of Hollywood’s glitz and glamour. What many visitors may not realize, however, is that there’s much more to this city than just the glitzy entertainment scene—LA offers the visitor breathtaking natural beauty like no other U.S. city can offer, as well as an eclectic and vibrant nightlife that rivals any other major city in the world.

Hollywood sign

A classic, must-see tourist destination for all Angelenos is the Hollywood Sign on Mount Lee in Griffith Park. There are four hiking routes, from 0.8 miles up to 2.6 miles roundtrip, with different views of the surrounding area. The hike up is steep and rugged at times, but you'll be rewarded with 360 degree panoramic views of the city upon reaching the top of Mount Lee. Make sure not to visit after sunset - watch out for rattle snakes!

Third Street Promenade

-Third Street Promenade: Spend your day looking around the many boutiques and eateries that line this LA staple. -Angel's Flight Railway: A funicular railway originally built in 1901, Angel's Flight Railway runs for a short roundtrip journey of 220 feet up the hill on Hill Street. The ride is free, but donations are welcome.

Santa Monica Pier

There is something for everyone at this oceanfront attraction. The pier houses an amusement park with a roller coaster and other rides, as well as two small zoos that offer photo opportunities with exotic animals. The best part is the end of the pier where you can walk out onto the fishing pier and feel like you're on top of the world.

Venice Beach Boardwalk

Wander the many paths and enjoy the ocean breeze and salt spray. The Venice Beach Boardwalk is a hub of activity with volleyball courts, skateboarders, bikers and an array of artists selling their wares. If you're hungry, stop by one of the eateries or pop into Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles for some down-home cooking.

California Science Center

The first and most popular stop for visitors is the California Science Center. Home to over a dozen permanent interactive exhibitions, the Science Center takes you on an awe-inspiring journey from ancient civilizations all the way through modern technologies. We recommend starting your day at The Terrace, located inside the museum and offering a sumptuous buffet breakfast as well as lunch and dinner every day.

Griffith Observatory

One of the best places to visit is Griffith Observatory, not only for its architectural features, but for its incredible views as well. The observatory contains multiple telescopes and offers public astronomy shows each day that are one of a kind. Plus, you can stop by the information booth on site and they can help you find your way around L.A.!

The Broad Museum

One of the most innovative and beautifully designed museums in America, the Broad is also one of the city's largest cultural philanthropies. Covering 1.6 acres on Grand Avenue, this iconic Frank Gehry-designed museum houses 2,000 works of art across 45,000 square feet. The Broad is a great place to go see contemporary art by artists such as Jackson Pollock and Jasper Johns and often has lectures and symposia held there as well.

Rodeo Drive

For some shoppers, Rodeo Drive is a necessary evil; for others, it's an unforgivable sin. The clientele is so diverse that you might not know who will be walking down the street next. Sometimes they'll be movie stars and rock stars, other times they'll be locals and tourists. Or sometimes it's all just celebrities all dressed up on a regular day.

Getty Museum

One of LA's most beautiful and impressive attractions, the Getty Museum is definitely a must-see. The views from both inside and outside are magnificent, but be warned--it can take hours just to get through the place! Along with a wide variety of art pieces, the Getty is famous for its ancient Greek and Roman artwork.

Located next to one of LA's busiest freeways on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, you can easily stop by this cultural monument after a day of shopping.

Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Park

It's an immersive and interactive theme park experience with world-renowned rides, endless entertainment, and one of the most impressive nighttime extravaganzas on Earth. Theme parks are a central element of childhood for so many people that visit Universal Studios Hollywood, as well as bringing back cherished memories for adults who were raised on a steady diet of amusement parks.
